Big news from our Joplin cosmetic surgery practice: we are welcoming a new surgeon to the practice, and we could not be more excited to introduce him.
Dr. David Baker is a board-certified osteopathic surgeon who recently completed his Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS). He joins Maningas Cosmetic Surgery as our dedicated body contouring specialist, and his background is genuinely one of a kind.
A Surgeon Who Has Done It All, Then Went Back to School
Dr. Baker grew up right here in the Four States area, in Galena, Kansas, just a few minutes from Joplin. He earned his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, completed his general surgery residency at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and then came home, spending over 15 years as a surgeon at Freeman Health System.
During that time, he wasn’t just operating. He rose to serve as Medical Staff President and Chief Medical Officer, taking on leadership roles that speak to both his clinical skill and his commitment to the patients and communities he serves.
Then, after more than a decade and a half of surgical practice, he did something a lot of experienced surgeons talk about but few actually do: he went back and completed a formal cosmetic surgery fellowship to specialize in aesthetic body surgery. That’s the kind of dedication to doing things the right way that fits right in here.

One of the things we love most about Dr. Baker is that he’s one of us. He grew up here, built his career here, and chose to plant his roots here. When he’s not in the OR, you might find him on the tennis court, out on a run, on the golf course, or exploring somewhere new with his family.
He’s also currently pursuing a Master’s in Health Care Administration from Pittsburg State University.
