Filler Options for Lips
JUVÉDERM® is a gel filler made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. It’s injected into the lips to instantly restore volume. The look and feel is so natural that people will definitely notice, but no one will know! JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective. Juvéderm Ultra or Volbella are the most common Juvéderm fillers used in the lip area.
Another filler is called . A safe and natural cosmetic filler, it restores volume and fullness to the skin as a means to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It’s also effective in giving your lips a more youthful look. Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. Results are instantaneous and last about 6 months. There is also Restylane® Silk, which is also an FDA-approved filler designed specifically for the treatment of lips and the lines around them. Restylane Silk’s unique, refined formulation is designed for precise lip shaping and for smoothing the lines around your mouth to create a natural look.
It is not commonly know that, unlike rooster-derived hyaluronic acid-based products, Restylane is free from animal proteins. This quality limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction. Restylane also has the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid available in any dermal filler.
What to Expect During Treatment
Lip Filler injections are non-surgical and typically completed during an office visit. Your initial treatment will begin with a consultation with Dr. Maningas or Beth, during which time, they will discuss your concerns and goals and help you come up with a treatment plan to obtain your desired results using fillers. Most patients will numb before treatment using topical anesthetic for added comfort. We also offer Pro-Nox (additional fee) during lip filler treatments. Pro-Nox is a self-Administered gas that’s made up of a 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide mixture to relieve of pain and anxiety. The filler itself also has lidocaine in it for added patient comfort. You will be able to go back to your normal activities right after treatment, but you may be asked you to take the day off from exercise or other strenuous activity, and to keep your head upright for the rest of the day. Mild redness, swelling at the injection site, and bruising are the most common side effects of Lip Filler injections. If this is your first lip filler treatment, Dr. Maningas or Beth may initially inject a more conservative amount and then schedule a follow-up appointment 2 weeks after your initial injection to assess your results and decide if a dose adjustment is needed for future filler appointments. This helps to ensure natural, optimal results without the risk of over-treating an area.
During your consultation, Beth or Dr. Maningas will evaluate your area of concern and go over your medical history. Even though there is little risk of major complications for most patients, it is still imperative that you share your medical history fully and openly before treatment, as certain allergies, skin and neurological conditions, or medications can make treatment unsuitable for a patient. For instance, you need to say if you have been taking NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) or blood thinners, as these can cause excessive bleeding, swelling, and bruising.
How Long Do the Results Last?
The plumping effects from lip filler treatments will vary depending on the patient, how many syringes are used and the product used, but results will typically last up to 12 months. To maintain your results, Dr. Maningas or Beth will simply repeat treatment, adjusting dosage and techniques as necessary to ensure optimal results. A lot of our patients like to come back around 8 or 9 months to retreat this lip area.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of lip fillers depends on the product and how many syringes you may need for best results. Fillers start as low as $400 per syringe and go up $677 per syringe. Patients may require more than one syringe to obtain desired results.
